PlayStation 4 reportedly crashing due to malicious message and how to protect your PS4

Numerous PS4 owners on Reddit and across social media are warning of a message containing a string of characters that can reportedly cause Sony’s console to seize up and crash. In some cases, the console gets so mixed up from this glitch that users are performing a factory reset on the hardware to get it working normally again.

We’ve seen bugs just like this on mobile platforms, where a certain message or strange character can wreak havoc and cause unstable behavior. If the reports are true, Sony will likely act quickly to roll out new system firmware that eliminates the issue. After all, this company loves issuing updates that improve system performance and stability.

To avoid any headaches until this gets sorted out, below are some steps you can take to protect your console against receiving the message at question from your multiplayer opponents and other strangers.

If you receive the message, delete it from Sony’s PlayStation Messages app for Android or iOS instead of opening it on your console.
There are reports that deleting the suspect message with Sony’s smartphone app beforepowering on your console and signing into PlayStation Network is enough to avoid problems. Sony’s PS4 messaging app is a free download and available on both Android and iOS.

How to restrict messages on your PlayStation 4 to friends only:

A) From a web browser, you can visit this URL. Sign in with your PS4 account credentials. Choose “Personal Info | Messages” and then select the edit button near Messages. From here, you can choose anyone, friends only, or no one. Until Sony fixes this bug, you should choose one of the latter two options.
B) From the PS4 console, go to Settings —> Account Management —> Privacy Settings. Choose “Personal Info | Messages” and then select Messages. From here, you can choose anyone, friends only, or no one. Until Sony fixes this bug, you should choose one of the latter two options.

How to rebuild the PS4 system database:

If you’re affected and find your PS4 acting funky even after getting rid of the message, you might want to boot the console in safe mood and rebuild the database. This process shouldn’t impact any of your saved data. Here’s what Sony says it does:
Scans the drive and creates a new database of all content on the system. This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.
This option is useful for cleaning up the data on your PS4 as it reorganises everything on the hard drive. Select this option if you are experiencing issues such as game freezes or frame rate drops.

Pixel 3 XL vs. iPhone XS Max: Google is aiming at Apple

The newly announced Pixel 3 XL is Google’s answer to the iPhone XS Max. There is no escaping Apple’s popular smartphone and to keep up Google borrowed some of its best features while adding a few wrinkles that will help differentiate it. Unlike past iterations, the Pixel 3 XL seems to have grown up to its full potential. Gone is the all-metal design that most flagships have long ditched, paving the way for a glass back that introduces wireless charging. The same theme carries over to the display where Google went with a notch, just like most Android flagships out there.

The iPhone XS Max is the bigger version of the iPhone XS introduced this year and as such, it only really adds size to the iPhone line-up. That comes in the form of a beautiful 6.5-inch OLED display with a notch and all the goodies iPhones offer nowadays—premium design, wireless charging and iOS gesture-based controls.

However, the biggest battle between the two comes down to camera quality.

We still have a lot of testing to see which is the better device, but in the meantime, look over the side by side spec list below to see how they compare.

29 Million Facebook Accounts have been accessed personal details by Facebook Hackers

Yes, Facebook originally said 50 million accounts were improperly accessed.

In September, a group of hackers used a flaw in Facebook’s “view as” feature to gain unauthorized access to millions of accounts — and today, the company released its most comprehensive statement yet on exactly what data was taken as part of the breach.

Related: Facebook's Breach will be Forgotten? DATA is Misused.

According to today’s statement, the hackers stole access tokens for 30 million accounts (revised down from an initial estimate of 50 million), allowing them to gain complete access to the profiles. Of those 30 million, the hackers accessed basic contact information (name and either email or phone number) for 14 million accounts, and additional information including gender, religion, location, device information, and the 15 most recent searches for another 15 million accounts. No information was accessed for the remaining one million accounts.

THE FBI IS ACTIVELY INVESTIGATING THE HACK

“We take these incidents really, really seriously,” said Guy Rosen, Facebook’s vice president of product management, told reporters in a call afterwards.

Facebook has pledged to notify all 30 million users through the Help Center in the coming days. Crucially, Facebook said no data was taken from third-party apps linked to the accounts, including Facebook products like Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. At the same time, there may have been smaller but more invasive attacks during the same period that have yet to be uncovered by Facebook’s investigation. There’s also no indication that the hackers posted any content while logged in.

Related: How To Check whether Your Facebook Data was Leaked!

The statement also gives new detail into the timeline of the attack. The first spike of activity registered on September 14th, but it wasn’t until 11 days later that Facebook identified the activity as a malicious attack. The vulnerability was closed two days later and reported to users and privacy officials in accordance with the GDPR and other breach disclosure laws.

Related: How to see if your Facebook data was accessed -- Facebook Hack

Facebook also confirmed that the FBI is actively investigating the hack, but declined to give further details, saying the bureau had “asked us not to discuss who may be behind this attack.” Because of the nature of the “View As” bug, it is likely that Facebook has significant knowledge of the accounts where the attack originated, if not the perpetrators themselves.

Google Pixel 3 Phone hands-on—Not the best first impression, only succeeds on its hardware design

NEW YORK—After an almost endless number of leaks, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have finally been unleashed. After scavenging the show floor for info and some experience with the new handsets, we're back to talk impressions.

The first thing you notice when you pick up either Pixel 3 is the back texture. The Pixel phones have traditionally had a two-tone look, accomplished in the past by a mostly metal back with a glass top. This year the back is all glass, but the two-tone look remains thanks to two different treatments to the glass. The top is bare, shiny glass and a fingerprint magnet, while the rest of the phone has a soft-touch, satin-like matte coating.

The coating feels great, but it doesn't seem very durable. There were already visible scratches on both of the demo units I photographed, which you can see, and it's easy to damage the back with something as mundane as a USB-C cable. Both of the demo phones I photographed at the show already had several scratches on them. Harsh camera lighting is pretty much the worst-case scenario for finding scratches, but I've never seen demo units this beat up before at a launch. I was disappointed by the change from metal to glass, but this is a double whammy: all the fragility of glass with none of the scratch-resistant hardness.

The coating on the back stops before it hits the edges of the phone. Since the matte coating feels so nice, I immediately wanted it to coat the sides of the phone, too, but I wonder if this was cut for durability concerns. The phone has a glass sandwich construction, with a glass panel on the top and bottom and a band of material in between. Google tells me the side material is aluminum, but it has some kind of coating on it that gives it a glossy finish and attracts fingerprints.

I'm sad to say the front design is just as disappointing in real life as it is in pictures. Google has turned in two phones that just aren't up to the 2018 competition. The Pixel 3 XL follows the notch display trend, but Google has the biggest notch in the industry. The cutout extends so far into the display that it doesn't fit inside a normal Android status bar, so the bar is twice as tall as normal, which looks ridiculous. The width of the notch means you only get to see three notification icons on the screen before you run out of space. Combined with the 3 XL's sizable bottom bezel, I don't think there's a single 2018 phone in the Pixel 3's price range you can point to and call a worse design. Google is pretty much at the back of the pack here.

Related: Everything we know about Google’s Pixel 3 Phone on Oct 9th

The Pixel 3 isn't any better. It has top and bottom bezels that are bigger than pretty much any other 2018 smartphone in its class. At least it's not as ugly as the Pixel 3 XL; it's just dated and doesn't feel like a 2018 flagship design.

The justification for both of these compromised front designs comes from two features: the dual front-camera system and the dual front-facing speakers, so they had better be fantastic. I'll have to try the speakers somewhere quieter than at a large event, but Google claims they are 40 percent louder than the Pixel 2's speakers. That's a good sign, because, despite how they looked on paper, the Pixel 2's "front-facing speakers" were not any better than the more space-efficient earpiece and bottom speaker combos on devices like the iPhone.

The camera system is another thing that will have to wait for the review. The dual-camera front system can switch between a wide angle and a normal camera lens, allowing it to "zoom out" and have a better view of a group of friends or a selfie with something in the background. I have some disappointment that Google hasn't built any kind of face unlock system, despite carving out a big chunk of the front for extra sensors.

The displays looked great at the show and in pictures. The shots you're looking at are just under the singular lighting of the show, though, so it's too early to say much. Apparently DisplayMate has done some early testing and came away a big fan of the Pixel 3 display, so it sounds like Google finally nailed down a respectable display provider. The Pixel 2 XL used an LG OLED with banding and burn-in issues, so hopefully those days are behind Google. (I'm guessing it switched to Samsung displays.)

On the software side of things, the Pixel 3 is running Android 9 Pie, so there are not a ton of changes. The biggest change is that gesture navigation is now mandatory—it's on by default and you can't turn it off. It's a very strange decision considering it was almost universally panned online throughout the entire beta process and during the release. Google doesn't seem to care about the feedback in this case.

Everything we know about Google’s Pixel 3 Phone on Oct 9th

The Pixel 3 XL may have the honor of being the most leaked smartphone in history. So with just days to go before Google formally introduces the phone at its New York City event, it seems like we know nearly everything that’ll be announced.
We’ve rounded up all the details that have leaked so far about the Pixel 3 XL and the smaller Pixel 3, along with all the details that are still rumored and a couple of the unknowns that we’re waiting to find out about on Tuesday. The event is happening on October 9th at 11AM ET, and we’ll be there to cover the news.

NEW SCREENS
The biggest physical difference on both the Pixel 3 and 3 XL is supposed to be their screens. The Pixel 3 is rumored to go from a traditional, squared-off 16:9 screen to a more modern 18:9 screen with thinner bezels and rounded corners. It’ll basically be like what you saw on all of last year’s flagship phones.

The Pixel 3 XL will, of course, get a notch like any good 2018 flagship. That means more screen space, but, controversially, it also means having a notch. And in this case, it’s a pretty thick one. Even as a person who’s not inclined to criticize notches, I have to say that it doesn’t look like Google’s finest design moment.

Info is a little sketchy regarding exactly how large each of the screens will be (which is weird, given how thoroughly leaked they are), but rumors currently point to a 6.7-inch screen on the XL (0.7-inch more than last year) and a 5.5-inch screen on the smaller model (a 0.5-inch jump). It seems as though both of these increases are entirely due to stripping away bezels instead of enlarging the actual devices. And while 6.7 inches is always going to be big, it’ll be a little bit less big than it sounds because of the phone’s tall aspect ratio.

So the screens will be bigger, but they’ll probably be upgraded, too. After last year’s OLED burn-in scare, you can bet that Google will have put its new displays to the test before sending them out to stores to make sure they don’t have any reliability issues.

SAME DESIGN, NEW COLORS
Both phones look almost identical to the Pixel 2, with just some slight differences. The glass shade on the back now seems to drip down along the edges instead of going straight across. The bezels on the front will be different because of the new screens. And the back is now expected to be entirely glass, with the bottom half once again coated in a matte paint to give it that two-tone look.

The more noticeable difference will be new colors for 2018. Both phones appear to come in black and white, with the white model (on the XL, at least) getting a mint green power button as a nice accent. (Unfortunately, it looks like the white-and-black “panda” model is gone.)

Right now, there are rumors about two possible additional colors: aqua and pink. From Google alone, the signs are pretty strong that an aqua version of one or both phones is on the way. Its teaser website included the color, and it just launched a Home Mini in the new color as well.

There hasn’t been nearly as much pointing to a supposed “pink sand” option. But AndroidHeadlines published what are supposed to be “official renders” of the Pixel 3 and 3 XL in pink, offering up some much more concrete evidence.

One interesting addition to this rumor: AndroidHeadlines believes there won’t be an aqua option, at least at launch, of either phone. That’d be the first time the Pixel launched without some kind of blue color option.

WIRELESS CHARGING
This is expected to be the first Pixel that’s capable of wireless charging, adding a feature that’s become nearly ubiquitous ever since the iPhone added it last year. It’s not yet known if Pixel 3 will support any type of fast charging (though it would be a surprise if it didn’t), but it does look like Google is planning some special features for when a phone is being powered this way.

A number of leaks have pointed to Google selling a “Pixel Stand” wireless charger, which appears as though it’ll charge the phone while ambiently displaying some info from Google Assistant. It looks like that could include messages, alarms, music, calendar events, or photos.

A SMARTER REAR CAMERA
The Pixel’s one true standout feature is its camera. And while we don’t know much about image quality upgrades this year — though we expect to see something — we do know that Google is trying to make the camera smarter. There’s a redesigned interface that makes it easier to pick out what mode you want. More importantly, it looks like Google Lens will constantly be running whenever the camera is opening, analyzing your screen for anything recognizable so that it can display info.

Will this be useful? That’s much harder to say. Google and other companies seem to be convinced that this is a feature that consumers will want. But right now, it’s slow and inconvenient: you usually have to open a specific app, point the camera, wait for recognition, then tap whatever it is that the app finds. That’s rarely easier than just typing in a search.

But Google seems to be building in some common sense features like business card scanning, and having the default camera app do that automatically could remove some of the existing problems with this type of feature.

A SECOND SELFIE CAMERA
Here’s one of the bigger changes to the Pixel 3 and 3 XL: they’re supposed to include a second camera on the front for wider selfies. Is that something we need? I’m honestly not sure, and we’ll be looking for Google’s explanation of why it decided to go down this route as the next major Pixel camera upgrade.

People have also been wondering if Google will put the second camera to use for any other purposes, like an improved portrait mode or a face detection login system. There hasn’t been anything confirmed on this front, though. It’s possible this is just another camera angle.

LOTS OF LIVE WALLPAPERS
One small but nice thing that Google has paid attention to is its phones’ wallpapers. Past generations have included a bunch of fun and stylish options built in, including some very simple animated ones. And it sounds like Google is going even further this year.

A bunch of wallpapers have leaked already, and among the most interesting are some live options that respond to the time of day and the way you interact with your phone. One very neat little touch is that these also carry over to the phone’s ambient display, adding a splash of color or movement. Owen Williams, who writes the Charged newsletter, tweeted a number of the options, including a music visualizer and a kind of adorable one that adds a “little explorer” to your lock screen.

A BETTER PROCESSOR
Alright, this is sort of an obvious one since it happens every year. This time around, both phones are expected to get a Snapdragon 845, Qualcomm’s current top-of-the-line processor. Unfortunately, it’s not clear if anything else is changing. RAM is currently rumored to stay the same, at 4GB, and there’s no word on higher storage capacities.

BUNDLED EARBUDS
Last year, Google cut out the headphone jack and threw a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle in the box to make up for it. This year, it seems like Google is going to include a pair of USB-C headphones, too, which should make the situation a little bit nicer for people without a wireless option on hand.

The headphones look a lot like Google’s Pixel Buds, just with wires. Oddly enough, it looked like Google intended to ship these with the Pixel 2 last year, but it decided late in the game to just include the dongle. Given how hard it is to find a decent, cheap pair of USB-C earbuds, this is appreciated.

Movie Preview -- November 2018 Watch Fantastic Beasts, The Nutcracker and The Four Realms, The Grinch and more

Every year, the shift into cooler weather comes alongside a shift into a cooler box office lineup: fewer billion-dollar blockbusters, fewer on-screen explosions, and a general trend toward less slashing, crashing action and more intense emotional action. The one thing that really heats up at the box office during the fall and winter season is the awards race: the last quarter of the year is a time for Oscar-bait projects and intense awards campaigning.

November is more of a mixed collection, but it’s surprisingly colorful, with additions to the Rocky, Harry Potter, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and Wreck-It Ralph franchises. This isn’t a comprehensive list of releases.

NOVEMBER 2ND

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY -- Full Movie 2018 online on Cuckoo Video Player Movie Channel

The summary: This biopic of Queen, the rock band behind hits like “We Will Rock You,” “We Are the Champions,” and the eponymous epic ballad, reportedly focuses above all on frontman Freddie Mercury.

Why Cuckoo users might care: Mr. Robot star Rami Malek plays Mercury, and early looks at the movie have mostly focused on his sound-alike performance and impressive mimicry of the singer’s moves and body language.

Why they might not: The movie has a pretty troubled past: Sacha Baron Cohen was originally cast as Mercury, but he reportedly dropped out of the film because he wanted a more adult take on the content. Director Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2, and X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse) was fired after he reportedly fought with Malek and stopped showing up to set without warning. A few days after his firing was announced, he was hit with a rape lawsuit regarding a 2003 incident. He still maintains sole directing credit, but the film’s production and post-production were handled by another director. It’s unclear whether the backstory will drive people away, draw in rubberneckers, or be completely forgotten in the wave of Oscar-courting publicity for the film.

What it says about the future: The big question about the future here isn’t Malek’s awards chances or the film’s box office; it’s whether Singer can save his career regardless of what happens with the film. He’s come through multiple sexual misconduct lawsuits, charges, and gossip already, and numerous reports of on-set blow-ups and no-shows. So the situation on Bohemian Rhapsody couldn’t have been entirely unexpected, but it was public enough and extreme enough to bring his future into question.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Official Trailer [HD] - 20th Century FOX - Cuckoo

NOBODY’S FOOL -- Full Movie 2018 online on Cuckoo Video Player Movie Channel

The summary: Ex-convict Tanya (Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish) re-enters the life of her high-powered business-executive sister Danica (Tika Sumpter) and learns she’s spent the last year in an online relationship with a man who she’s never seen. Suspecting her sister’s being catfished, Tanya pushes for a road trip to find and confront the elusive boyfriend.

Why Cuckoo users might care: Haddish’s star has been steadily on the rise since Girls Trip, and she’s becoming a reliable draw. A promising cast (including Whoopi Goldberg, Sorry to Bother You’s Omari Hardwick, and Glee’s Amber Riley) have made for some pretty lively trailers. And the whole story feels like a tongue-in-cheek look at catfishing and online relationships in general.

Why they might not: It’s a Tyler Perry movie. Perry’s name under “writer-director” in the credits is generally enough to let viewers decide on their own whether they’re excited to proceed or couldn’t be hauled into the theater with heavy industrial equipment.

What it says about the future: Internet culture and online dating have been thoroughly mainstreamed, and we can look forward to a whole lot of general audience comedies like this.

THE NUTCRACKER AND THE FOUR REALMS -- Full Movie 2018 online on Cuckoo Video Player Movie Channel

The summary: Inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s The Nutcracker and the Mouse King — a short story that also launched the famous ballet The Nutcracker and endless other Christmas iterations of the story — The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is a lush Disney fantasy about a young woman (Mackenzie Foy) who gets drawn into a magical realm that’s invented by her mother.

Why Cuckoo users might care: The film has a pretty impressive pedigree. It was co-scripted by Ashleigh Powell and Oscar-winning Spotlight writer-director Tom McCarthy, and it was co-directed by Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston. The cast includes Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, and Keira Knightley. It’s cut from the same cloth as Disney’s extravagant, exhausting live-action remakes like Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast, with the one advantage that it’s drawn from a less-familiar story.

Why they might not: For viewers who are tired of this particular aesthetic — and Tim Burton’s 2010 Alice in Wonderland remake, which seemingly serves as their visual template — this movie’s going to look really familiar, even if the story doesn’t follow beats most Americans memorized as children.

What it says about the future: This definitely looks like a trial balloon for Disney. These live-action remakes are bringing in a ton of money by playing the nostalgia card. Can more original content that looks and sounds the same pull in similar box office numbers, or is the studio better off carting out endless retreads of its most classic movies?

THE GRINCH -- Full Movie 2018 online on Cuckoo Video Player Movie Channel

The summary: Remember Dr. Seuss’ classic picture book How the Grinch Stole Christmas? Remember Despicable Me, which gave the world those bug-eyed, funny-talking yellow Minions and spawned many profitable sequels and spinoffs? Here’s a film from Despicable Me’s studio that pretty much merges the two, with the Grinch (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) as a Despicable Me-esque cranky villain wandering around Whoville performing minor acts of villainy, until he gets the idea to ruin Christmas.

Why Cuckoo users might care: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is a beloved memory for a lot of people. The 2010 Ron Howard live-action remake is also a beloved memory for some, and a burning tragedy for others. Strangely, both groups might be interested in a new animated take on the tale, either to continue their fandom or to get the taste of Jim Carrey’s Grinch gags out of their mouths.

Why they might not: Illumination is the home of goofy, pretty, meme-friendly movies like Sing, The Secret Life of Pets, and The Lorax, as well as Minions and the Despicable Me movies. Like Tyler Perry above, they’re a pretty well-known “like it or don’t” property. Viewers who don’t have a lot of interest in animation that skews heavily toward bright, harmless, and kid-friendly probably aren’t going to be drawn to this one, either.

What it says about the future: How many Dr. Seuss books does Illumination have the rights to, anyway? Also, the early release date on this holiday movie suggests that by 2025, the Christmas movie season is going to start in mid-August.

THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB -- Full Movie 2018 online on Cuckoo Video Player Movie Channel

The summary: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo protagonist Lisbeth Salander and her on-again, off-again journalist partner Mikael Blomkvist are back. This time, they’re involved in a case involving a spy ring, a group hacking the NSA, and Lisbeth’s long-lost sister.

Why Cuckoo users might care: There was a fair bit of controversy over Stieg Larsson’s family deciding to continue his internationally best-selling Millennium series after his death, and the public war between his heirs and his partner was polarizing. All three books in Larsson’s trilogy were adapted for the screen in his native Sweden, with Noomi Rapace as the series’s breakout character, Lisbeth. But only the first book, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, was adapted in America, with David Fincher directing and Rooney Mara playing Lisbeth. One reason might be that the sequels were never as neatly packaged and cinematic as the first book. This film, starring The Crown’s Claire Foy as Lisbeth, adapts the first non-Larsson book in the series, written by David Lagercrantz. And it’s much more expressly designed as a sleek action story that brings back some extremely popular characters in a screen-friendly way.

Why they might not: The fight over Larsson’s estate was polarizing, with some fans of the original trilogy vehemently swearing they’d never touch the profiteering sequels. Some of the same sentiment may keep people away from the film — or viewers may just avoid it if they didn’t care for the first movie or Lisbeth. She’s a fairly extreme character, a kind of goth-punk avenging-angel super-hacker who brutalizes abusive men. She’s as much of a dark wish-fulfillment fantasy as any superhero, and she’s not for all tastes.

What it says about the future: This one’s an easy call: Lagercrantz has already written a fifth book in the series, 2017’s The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye, and the success of this film version will likely determine whether that one makes it to the screen as well.

OVERLORD -- Full Movie 2018 online on Cuckoo Video Player Movie Channel

The summary: Caught behind enemy lines on D-Day, a group of American soldiers run across a Nazi mad-science lab that’s manufacturing monsters to win the war.

Why Cuckoo users might care: It’s an unconventional-looking horror film, produced by J.J. Abrams and initially billed as the fourth film in the distantly related Cloverfield series, though that connection has since been retracted. Director Julius Avery isn’t well-known — this is his second feature after the 2014 heist movie Son of a Gun — but the trailer makes this look like Hellboy meets 28 Days Later with the grimy visual aesthetic of Coralie Fargeat’s Revenge.

Why they might not: Abrams’ name on a horror film doesn’t mean as much as it used to, and his puzzle box strategy of withholding as much information as possible about a film can sometimes strand it without significant selling points beyond “looks bloody and crazy!”

What it says about the future: Given the tenuous-at-best connection between Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane, and the series’S after-the-fact tacked-on connections to Cloverfield Paradox, it seems just as well that the projects Abrams is signing onto and edging toward a Cloverfield link are dropping that idea and attempting to stand on their own.

FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD -- Full Movie 2018 online on Cuckoo Video Player Movie Channel

The summary: Continuing the story arc that started with 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the sequel continues to fill in the history of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, with more of the early adventures of magical-animal fan Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), Hogwarts headmaster-to-be Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law), and the monstrous Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).

Why Cuckoo users might care: The world is full of Harry Potter fans looking for more of Rowling’s world, and not everyone can afford to go to New York or London to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child onstage.

Why they might not: The world is also full of people who don’t care about prequels, wizards, fantastic beasts, or big, splashy CGI fantasies.

What it says about the future: Director David Yates (who also helmed the first film in this series, and the last four films in the Harry Potter book adaptation series) is signed on for three more Fantastic Beasts film after this one.

CREED II -- Full Movie 2018 online on Cuckoo Video Player Movie Channel

The summary: Having secured the assistance and training of former boxing champ Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) in Ryan Coogler’s 2015 sports drama Creed, Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan), son of Rocky’s old rival Apollo Creed, is now training to fight the son of another old Rocky rival, Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), who killed Apollo in the ring back in Rocky IV.

Why Cuckoo users might care: The first Creed was an excellent, well-performed, riveting drama, and Jordan has only become a bigger star since then, especially due to his role as the villain of Coogler’s Marvel movie Black Panther. The Rocky franchise has often brought a startling amount of gravitas and humanity to the underdog-sports-movie genre.

Why they might not: Coogler has moved on from the series, replaced by near-unknown Steven Caple Jr. Rocky IV, which this film taps into for its drama, is widely considered the corniest and most excessive film in the series. And the whole “fighting the son of the man who killed my father” plot sounds pretty gimmicky.

What it says about the future: At this point, it feels like an absolute sure thing that Stallone is going to be fully scanned and digitized so he can continue making Rocky movies well into the next millennium.

RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET -- Full Movie 2018 online on Cuckoo Video Player Movie Channel

The summary: Video game villain Ralph and his racing-game buddy Vanellope von Schweetz leave their arcade world and upload themselves to the internet in this sequel to 2012’s animated Disney hit Wreck-It Ralph.

Why Cuckoo users might care: In the same way Wreck-It Ralph tried to tap into the tropes of video games and fill the screen with in-jokes for gamers (including familiar characters, references, and Easter eggs), the sequel is full of references to life online, from comic looks at Twitter, search engines, casual games, clickbait, and so forth. It’s a knowing meta-comedy that looks like it’s going to tap into the same kind of “Hey, I recognize that” humor as the first one.

Why they might not: It’s unclear whether the film actually has a plot, especially one as emotionally resonant as the original movie’s. Wreck-It Ralph is a funny film full of nostalgia-bait humor about internet culture, but it’s also incredibly well-written and well-paced. It also reaches classic Pixar levels of emotion with its plot about the difficulties of being misunderstood, shut out, judged, and controlled by other people’s opinions. The trailers for the sequel showcase some humor that has Disney mocking its own image with some very detailed parodies of its own property, but is there a story?

What it says about the future: Again, internet culture is now a jokey trope worth wrapping even the most mainstream and crowd-friendly movies around.

ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE -- Full Movie 2018 online on Cuckoo Video Player Movie Channel

The summary: Scottish Christmas zombie musical!

Why Cuckoo users might care: For viewers who aren’t already completely weary of zombie stories, musicals, or dark comedies that take the grimmest tropes with a lighthearted archness, this indie musical comedy about a bloody undead attack on a group of angsty high schoolers is pretty refreshing in its sheer commitment to fun. It’s relatively serious about expressing certain aspects of the teen experience, from anxiety about life after high school to embarrassment over an ill-advised hookup. But mostly, it’s an upbeat singalong that doesn’t stint on the shocks or the gore.

Why they might not: Plenty of people are tired of zombies, don’t like musicals, and resent the mash-up culture that mixes genres into a big sloppy stew. Arguably, those people may be taking their culture too seriously, but you can’t dictate what’s fun.

What it says about the future: Zombie stories have fallen out of vogue, but this is proof that they’re going to keep rising from the dead as long as creators keep coming up with new twists for their stories, or as long as creators keep growing up on zombie stories and wanting to try their own hand at adding to the canon.
